The Redbank Valley School District is committed to maintaining a safe and secure learning environment for all students and staff. In accordance with Pennsylvania Act 44 of 2023, the District has updated its procedures related to school safety notifications.
Act 44 requires public school districts to notify parents/guardians and employees within 24 hours when a weapon-related incident occurs on school grounds, on a district bus or van providing transportation to and from school or a school-sponsored activity, or at a school-sponsored event. Under this law, the term "weapon" is broadly defined and may include firearms, knives, and other cutting instruments.
When notification is required, the District will provide general information about the incident while protecting student privacy, as required by law. Notifications will not include personally identifiable student information and will be shared in a manner intended to inform, not alarm, the school community.
Parents and guardians of the affected building will be notified through the District’s e-mail communication system. To ensure you receive timely notifications, please ensure your contact information is up to date. Instructions on how to review and update your contact information are available on the District’s website and Facebook page.
This law reflects Pennsylvania’s ongoing efforts to promote school safety while balancing confidentiality and responsible communication. The District will continue to work closely with law enforcement and follow established safety protocols to ensure appropriate responses to all incidents.
If you have questions regarding school safety procedures or Act 44, please contact the District Administration Office at 814-275-2426.
